There are lots of communal areas that make you feel like you’re just hanging out as your friend’s place. Lounge in the TV room, cook up some lunch in the kitchen, or swing in the hammocks. 5 The Independente Hostel in Lisbon, Portugal

8 City Circus in Athens, Greece
This quirky remodeled 4 story mansion sports eclectic furniture matched with frescoed ceilings and avant-garde street art by new local talent. 9 El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas, USA
El Cosmico describes itself as a nomadic hotel and campground. Located in the desert just outside of Marfa, it offers a number of accommodation choices, including tents, yurts and teepees. There are vintage trailers, a hammock grove, and an outdoor stage. Most people come to see the mystery lights, an inexplicable phenomenon described by several witnesses. 10 The Graham & Company in Phoenicia, New York
Tucked in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, this boutique hotel offers an escape from nearby New York or for those just wanting to enjoy the mountainous surroundings. 11 Kex Hostel in Reykjavik, Iceland
The Kex Hostel is located on the site of a former biscuit factory, and the three-story warehouse overlooks the waterfront.
