Yoga Breaks in Spain, Spain…

Costa Blanca was recently declared one of the healthiest climates by the World Health Organization, so it’s a natural place to head if you need to relax and heal. Designed for beginners and intermediates, these yoga retreats take place in a beautiful hotel, as part of a wholesome healing schedule. The twice daily yoga sessions focus on loosing the joints and easing tension, and there’s also meditation and breathing classes to teach mindfulness. There’s even Ayurvedic-inspired meals, which are both delicious and nourishing, and a range of comforting foods such as croissants, cakes and coffees. There’s nothing strict here, and other activities include hiking, cooking lessons, massages, kayaking and mountain biking. Amazing, and very rejuvenating.

Big Sky Yoga Retreats, Bozeman…

These yoga breaks take place in a stunning purpose built timber lodge, with natural river rock and timber beams throughout. It’s the perfect blend of home comforts and being lost in nature – and that’s a great place to experience some yoga! There’s a whole variety of classes, ranging from the very beginners to complete pros, and a range of other outdoor activities such as nature hikes, too. Montana’s starlit nights are unmissable, and provide the perfect backdrop for mountain foods and wine. There’s a gym and games room on site, along with a waterfall and huge hot tub – it sounds heavenly.

3

Domaine De La Grausse, France…

I love France, and this yoga company offers the perfect chance to explore Clermont La Grausse, while refreshing your body and mind. Renowned yoga teacher Dagmar is resident here, and offers study time, and there are a variety of yoga classes available throughout the day for all abilities. The course is set in a stunning 18th century chateau, with huge gardens, two yoga barns and two renovated stone barns offering self-catering accommodation. The middle of the day is usually kept free to allow visitors to explore the waterfalls and caves in the Ariege Valley, explore medieval castles or take a barge on the underground river. It’s definitely an ideal way to explore a beautiful country!

4

Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, Bahamas…

This is a more traditional yoga retreat, with a clear timeline used every day. Visitors to the yoga retreat rise at 6am to meditate through dawn, chant and do two hours of Hatha yoga before the 10am meal is served. The afternoon is similarly scheduled, with time allowed for doing chores around the resort and doing Karma yoga. It’s a tough regime that’s designed to fully recharge your batteries, and it’s worth noting that all the provided meals are vegetarian. But the island is beautiful, and the crystal waters and white sands more than make up for the military-style regime.

5

Jatoba Terra Prana Lar Yoga, Brazil…

Fancy exploring Brazil while trying a variety of different yoga types? This break is perfect. The retreat offers Kundalini, Yin, Hatha, Partner, Karma and Mandala yoga, along with other peaceful activities such as meditation, mantras, sacred dances, fire rituals, silent walks and Zen Shiatsu. When you aren’t locating and developing your inner peace, there’s a sweat lodge, fresh water pool and meditation deck. Meals are provided, and are mostly vegetarian, made with home-made cheese, bread and yogurt. There’s even a specific children’s program, and an organic garden, along with a sacred waterfall to explore. Ideal for people who want a wholesome retreat that’s packed with adventure and culture.

Shreyas Yoga Retreat, India…

This is an upmarket yoga experience that is the perfect blend of holiday and retreat. A member of the exclusive Relais and Chateaux group, this resort is devoted to promoting authentic yoga. The resort boasts over 25 acres of landscaped gardens, and is powered through a variety of green initiatives, including rain water harvesting, solar heating, medicinal herb plantations, organic farming and organic waste disposal. It offers Ashtanga and Hatha yoga for every ability level, along with chanting classes, silent retreats, meditation, professional massages and Ayurvedic treatments. Meals are all hand-cooked from home-made produce, and are always vegetarian. There’s even a Culinary Experiences Package, if you’d rather explore food than yoga. This resort has just 14 rooms, holding up to 25 people in total, making it a personal retreat like no other.

7

Maya Tulum, Mexico…

Fancy immersing yourself in culture and style? Maya Tulum is located just 90 minutes from Cancun, and has a major appeal to celebrities. This seaside wellness centre hosts more than 50 yoga events every year, and has a range of programs on offer. Five or seven night Mind, Body, Spirit programs come complete with vegetarian meals, massages, day trips around Mexico and a gorgeous spa, with Mayan clay massages and a sweat lodge. There’s 46 stone-and-thatch cabanas to stay in, and you are sure to leave feeling reinvigorated. Yoga isn’t exercise here, it’s a laid-back way of life! One of my absolute favorite yoga retreats.

So, where would you choose if you were packing your bags for a yoga retreat? It’s a tough choice, with resorts popping up all over the country – including a big new retreat in Ireland, which isn’t too far from me. I think I’ll escape to New Zealand next – where would you love to go?
