Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one of the most awe-inspiring places on earth. Visitors to the park can marvel at the incredible power of nature as they witness the ongoing eruption of Kilauea, which has been active since 1983.
The park is home to a variety of unique features, including the Thurston Lava Tube, a 500-year-old lava tube that visitors can explore, and the Halema‘uma‘u Crater, which is an active crater that produces spectacular lava displays. The park is also home to a variety of native plants, birds, and animals, including the rare Hawaiian hawk and the Hawaiian hoary bat.
The park is also home to a variety of cultural sites, including the historic Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, which was established in 1912 and is the oldest volcano observatory in the United States. Visitors can also explore the Ka‘u Desert, which is the largest desert in the Hawaiian Islands, and the Petroglyphs, which are ancient Hawaiian carvings in the lava rocks.
