The New York City St. Patrick’s Parade is the largest and oldest parade celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the world. Dating back to March 17, 1762, this gigantic parade starts at 11am and continues until around 5pm. The parade is run by volunteers and numbers around 150,000 participants each year. Approximately 2 million spectators are present to watch this long-running parade. It's definitely one of the biggest St. Patrick's Day parades in the USA.

2. Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade is celebrating its 63rd anniversary this year. The parade is thick with bagpipers, marching bands wearing eye-catching band uniforms, and Irish step dancers. To celebrate the day the Chicago River is dyed green. While the coloring only lasts five or six hours, the green river is a sight to be seen and adds a vibrant element to the celebration.

***

The tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green started in 1962, when city pollution-control workers used dyes to trace illegal sewage discharges and realized the green dye could provide a unique way to celebrate the holiday. Nowadays, it takes about 40 pounds of eco-friendly vegetable dye to turn the river into an emerald spectacle. Post-parade, Chicagoland residents and visitors often enjoy traditional Irish fare at local pubs. Don't miss the leprechauns and floats adorning the streets, making the windy city buzz with festive cheer and a touch of Irish pride for the day.

3. Savannah, Georgia

crowd, festival, audience, fête, public event,

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the third largest in the world! That is not bad for a population of less than 200,000. Savannah, Georgia is beautiful and the Spanish moss hanging from the trees adds a wondrous effect to the parade. More than 300,000 spectators flock to the city to watch the parade and enjoy the festivities. Down on River Street and in the City Market, open-air parties are held with live music and great food. Alcohol can be carried throughout the Historic District, so let the celebration begin!
