Here are the five most unique restaurants around the world in the most remote places. Some are on remote islands, some hidden in nature, and some are entirely inaccessible.
1. Nordasti Hagi Restaurant – the Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are beautiful. Located in the Arctic Ocean between Norway and Iceland, getting to Nordasti Hagi Restaurant can be even more challenging than getting to the island that it's on. Luckily you can get a private charter plane to isolated restaurants these days so if you have deep pockets, getting here shouldn't be an issue. Set in a centuries-old farmhouse, you must either walk along the rugged coast for 30 minutes, hitch a ride in an off-road vehicle or land here in a private helicopter from the airport.
2. The Three Chimneys Restaurant – Isle of Skye, Scotland
Located on a remote island near Scotland. The Three Chimneys Restaurant is world-famous for its excellent cuisine and remote location.
The Isle of Skye is a beautiful location, spectacular in all seasons. The restaurant has been serving hungry visitors here for more than 30 years for those who are adventurous enough to get there! It is more than a six-hour drive from the closest airport (located in Glasgow). You can charter a helicopter from the airport if you don't fancy the drive.
3. Ithaa Restaurant – the Maldives
Ithaa Restaurant is an undersea restaurant that will blow your mind. Enjoy your food under the ocean, clear blue with stunning views of the fish and other sea creatures which include Manta Rays, Sharks and Stingrays. It's located 5 metres below sea level at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in Alif Dhaal Atoll in the Republic of Maldives.
You can fly by charter jet to get here and then get a sea taxi to the island to dine. The accommodation is pretty perfect here too.
4. Maaemo Restaurant, Norway
Norway's only three Michelin star restaurant and the northernmost three Michelin star restaurant in the world, Maaemo. Offers exquisite foot that takes you on a journey from incredible raw food through to the final product of cooked food. Set in the perfect hideaway location, Maaemo serves a spirited tasting menu made up of a variety of artfully devised dishes such as Norwegian langoustines with pine, mackerel with ramson and butter ice cream with brown butter caramel.
The surroundings in the winter months are beautiful. The restaurant is covered by a layer of soft snow and ice-cold waterways.
5. Mount Huashan Teahouse – Huayin, China
It is one of the most, if not the most remote restaurant in the world. Sat on top of Mount Huashan is the Mount Huashan Teahouse. Serving traditional Chinese cuisine which is delicious and flavoursome. This restaurant uses the freshest local ingredients and great tea and snacks. The journey up to Mount Huashan Teahouse is not for the faint-hearted, and a steep hike is needed. The view at the top is breathtaking.
