1

Avoid a Pat-down

According to what I've read, and from some of my family's experiences, wearing a skirt on a plane ride will automatically earn you a pat-down from the waist down. Their reason? Women can easily hide things under their skirts, and no one would be the wiser. If you're going to wear a skirt, make sure it's shorter, which might cut down some on your pat-down. Otherwise a pair of jeans or shorts would be the only way to keep from it happening. I know that some women don't mind, but others feel that it's an invasion of privacy, and it's embarrassing. So to avoid an embarrassing moment, watch what you wear. Another way to avoid a pat-down is to avoid lots of metal in your clothing. Oh, and watch your jewelry too. If you've taken everything out of your pockets, and you're still setting off the metal detector, you're going to get a full search. So, it's best to keep away from jumpers with metal clasps, or lots of metal jewelry. Dress simply and comfy and save the jewelry and dressy clothes for after you get where you're going.

2

Pack Lightly

It's come to my attention, as I've been planning my New Jersey trip, that for most airlines, you will be charged so much per piece of luggage you put under the plane. I'm flying US Airways, and I found out that while my purse and one small carry-on is free, I have to pay $25 for my first suitcase and $35 for my second. And there's more of a fee for overweight luggage as well. So, just be careful how much you pack, as you could end up spending a small fortune just to take your luggage. Pack as lightly as possible and you should be fine.

3

It's Cheaper to Fly

For me, round trip ticket to Jersey costs $277, while a road trip would have cost me approximately $295.00 plus cost of the toll roads I'd have to travel. So, it was much cheaper to fly, and I get there several hours sooner, too, which is always great for a pregnant woman! So, if you're going to be vacationing out of state, you might want to look into airline tickets, and weigh out your costs.

4

Have an Itinerary

I know that plans change and it's hard to put plans in concrete, but that doesn't mean that you can't have an idea about where to go. Go online and research the area you're going to be visiting, and get an idea about where you're going to want to go and what you're going to want to see. That way, when you get there, you will know where you want to start and you won't be standing at the airport wandering what to do first!

5

Have Snacks

Car travel and snacks go together hand in hand! In my opinion, there is no sense in stopping for three meals a day on the road. Stop for one meal a day on the road, preferably your lunch meal, and the rest of the time, just snack. Crackers, chips, fruit and whatever else sounds good and not so messy for your car.

Pack a Capsule Wardrobe

In case you don't know what this is, I'll explain. It's packing lightly, but in a way that looks like you've brought a lot of clothes. You can pack your white blouse, nice dress slacks, skirt, vest, jacket, and lots of accessories, and then you have several outfits, because your blouse, slacks and jacket would be one, your blouse and skirt would be one, your vest and slacks would be one, etc. Mixing and matching with different accessories will give the illusion of many outfits when in truth, you only have a few things. Great, right?

7

Be Yourself

Don't let the pressure of "fitting in" get to you. Be yourself, no matter what everybody else is doing. Who cares as long as you're having fun? There is no sense in letting them get to you and make you feel out of place! You're unique, so be yourself - and enjoy your vacation!

Be prepared, have a plan and enjoy a wonderful vacation this year! Good luck and God speed!
