1

Pace the Gluttony

One of the best tips for staying healthy on a cruise is to watch what you eat. We all get tempted to consume half the buffet table to get the most value for money possible. If you don’t pace yourself you’ll feel terrible for the next few hours after you eat. Moreover, eating like this is plain unhealthy. You don’t want to put on the pounds during a long cruise or you’ll face the hassle of losing it when you return home.

2

Wash Your Hands

Of all the tips for healthy cruising, the most important one is to wash your hands. If you want to avoid the major diseases, such as Norovirus, this is the way to do it. Wash them before and after you eat and each time you get onto the boat. There’s a reason why there are hand sanitizers all over the ship. Consider bringing along your own anti-bacterial hand wash.

3

Drink Lots of Water

Most cruises take you to exotic destinations with sun, sea, and sangria. Here’s some great health advice for cruising – drink lots of water. First-timers often underestimate how dehydrated they get. Drink enough water to keep your urine clear or slightly yellow. If it’s dark yellow, you need to drink water. Drink some Gatorade or similar if you’re severely dehydrated. It has more electrolytes than normal water.

4

Drinking on Land

During your on-shore excursions, check the regulations on water. Water from the faucet in some places is not good to drink as it isn’t treated properly. If you must drink water, pick up bottled water. It might be more expensive, but you don’t want your cruise to end with you on the way to hospital. Here’s one of my bonus tips to stay healthy on a cruise: read the literature you get on the cruise. They often provide all the information on drinking water in your shore destinations. Also, don’t drink too much alcohol on your shore excursions – you might not like how your body reacts when you get underway again.

5

Exercise

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of enjoying all the sedentary activities on modern cruise ships. Whether it’s sitting down to watch a movie or a show, or having a flutter in the on-board casino, all thoughts of exercise can fly out the window. But, there are so many ways to exercise on a cruise that it doesn’t take too much effort. Promenade the decks, swim, jog or take advantage of any of the physical activities. Modern ships are like floating cities and have more fun ways to exercise than you can imagine.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Wear Sunscreen

The sun doesn’t have to be blazing hot to burn you. You can get burned even during an apparently normal day. Keep reapplying your sunscreen every few hours. As part of the standard health advice for cruising, this will always come up. Bring it with you as it’s more expensive on the ship itself. A good sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB rays.

7

Disclose Your Health Problems

You’ll always receive a form inquiring about your health issues before you set sail. Amongst all the tips to stay healthy on a cruise this is probably the best. Tell the truth about any health problems you have. You won’t automatically lose your spot on the ship because of a virus. You might have to report to the medical team, though. Very rarely will an illness automatically exclude you from your vacation on the high seas.

I hope these tips to stay healthy on a cruise will ensure you have a fantastic onboard experience. Are you going cruising soon?
