1. Become a Tourist of Your Hometown

Acting like a tourist is one of the best things to do on a staycation. Your hometown might have a history or hidden treasure that you didn’t know existed. Pretend like this is your first time coming to this town. Pick up a map and go around downtown looking for different locations to visit. Take your camera and snap some pictures of different statues, buildings, and nature itself. Take some notes that you might learn about that day. Get lost in the tourist role. You do not have to wear a backpack and fanny pack. Take out your map and look around at all of the places that you’ve never been before. Who knows? You might discover a new favorite restaurant or place that you never knew existed. You could actually meet new people when you go to your local information center as you seek out the best spots for your tour of one.

2. Visit a Museum

Museums are like living time capsules in a city or town. You can pop in and take a look around inside. No matter what the museum is, you can always find something in them. There is practically a museum for anything these days. Whatever you are interested in, you can feel at home with your museum of choice. Always read the signs and be respectful of the items on display. Some places allow you to take pictures. Take as many notes as you can. If you have any questions, do not be afraid to ask the staff of the museum. They always have an interesting story waiting to get out. Plus, museums always have something new on display depending on the season and the theme they decide on.

3. Spend the Day in the Library

Books always provide the greatest escape. Your local library has a sea of treasures. Just go in and pick out some books to get lost in. Sometimes, they could be the coolest or warmest place to hang around. You can also get on a computer and look up information. It never hurts to learn something at any age. On top of that, your library could hold different activities during different weeks. Some of them hold book sales. Depending on the library, they sometimes show movies during the summer. Clubs hold meetings at the library. Get information about them if you want to join. Always look up what is going on at your library’s website. If you want, you can even do some volunteer work with some of the children’s programs.

4. Go to the Park

This is the simplest trip that you can make. There is much to do in the park. Many events are held here. You can people-watch. Look around at all of the people around you and make up little stories in your head. Treat yourself to an impromptu performance. Some of the rare talents can be found here. You can even just enjoy the nice day around you. Getting lost in nature is always a refreshing treat. If you have children, you can let your little ones play around on the playground. You might feel like a kid yourself and play with them. Pack yourself a lunch before you go. You can eat it in your car or under the shelter.

5. Take a Drive around Your Hometown

Everyone loves cars. You do not have to go far. Just get in your car and drive around your hometown. You can look around at sights. There is always something new to discover if you know where to look. If you want to take pictures, take your camera and snap away. Just be careful when you drive and obey traffic rules.
