1. A Monstrous Summer

This event alone could be all the things to do at Disney World this summer! Disney will be celebrating the opening of the new Monsters University movie all summer long at both the Disneyland and Disney World Resorts. To kick off the fun, both Disneyland and The Magic Kingdom will be open for 24 hours straight on May 24th. After this, there will be character meet ups at The Hollywood Studios throughout the summer. There are also a few Monsters University themed monorails riding between the different parks and hotels around Magic Kingdom.

2. Star Wars Weekends

Every year the Hollywood Studios hosts a few weekends completely dedicated to Star Wars. This year will be a bit more epic than usual since Disney bought Lucas Arts earlier in 2013. These weekends look incredible and will consist of celebrities, Star Wars themed parades, picture locations, late night dance parties, and the ability for parents to be in Jedi training with their kiddos! The Star Wars weekends will be here from May 17th to June 9th.

Frequently asked questions

3. 4th of July Celebrations

As part of the Limited Time Magic, Disney is expanding their usual 4th of July celebrations to the entire week of the 4th. During Independence Day week, The Magic Kingdom will be doing the usual 4th of July fireworks display every night. Hopefully, this will massively reduce crowd levels on the actual Independence Day. These fireworks will also include patriotic themed music and backdrops on Cinderella’s Castle.

4. Poolside

The parks are not the only place to be at Disney World this summer. Florida gets hot and the Disney World executives know how refreshing those long slides and cool pools are. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, take the chance to stop by any of the Disney Resort pools. The Polynesian Resort has incredible poolside Hawaiian music, a view of The Magic Kingdom, and a slide that goes for miles. For some more water centered fun, check out the Finding Nemo themed pool at the Art of Animation resort. This pool has underwater music and games for the kids in all of us.

5. A Pirate’s Adventure

This new game has recently opened in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland. Like Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, A Pirate’s Adventure takes you throughout certain areas of the park on different quests. In this adventure, you are helping Captain Jack Sparrow find treasure. When you start, you are given a map and a starting location. From there, you must use clues given by Captain Jack that lead to secret areas around Adventureland. The game has multiple levels for even more fun.

6. Sounds like Summer Concert Series

Every year EPCOT does a summer music series. This year, the Sounds Like Summer Concert Series will include tributes to U2, The Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Lynard Skynard, and a whole lot more. Admission to these concerts is included in your EPCOT park ticket, but I would recommend getting there a bit early and being ready to stand in a big line. These concerts will be happening from June 9th to July 27th at The American Gardens Theatre.

7. Water Parks

If you are visiting Disney World Resort this summer, you may want to spend a few more dollars for a day at one of the Disney water parks. These parks include Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Typhoon Lagoon has recently gone through an extensive refurbishment while Blizzard Beach has had a few special events already this summer. Both parks have large kiddy areas along with some innovative slides and relaxing lazy rivers.

Disney World is one of the most popular tourist destinations both nationally and internationally over the summer. To keep up with the high demand, they have created some incredible events and extra perks only available to their summer guests. What are some of the things you are most excited to see Disney doing this year?
