1

The Bridge of Sighs, Venice

Venice has to be one of the most swoon-worthy destinations for Valentine’s Day and is packed with romantic views. You can look down on St. Mark’s Square or across the Lido, but the best for me is looking down the canals from the beautiful Bridge of Sighs. Walk the bridge (it’s tiny), and then take a gondola ride. Be sure to pass underneath the bridge and when you do, share a kiss – legend goes, you’re guaranteed eternal love

2

The London Eye, London

You have to pray for a day of decent weather (fat chance these days in the UK!) but if it’s fine, the view from the London Eye is splendid. You’ll be able to spot all the iconic landmarks London is so famous for, but what makes this worthy for Valentine’s Day is you can book a champagne flight where you have a capsule to yourselves, complete with a bottle of bubbly.

3

Lover’s Point, Pacific Grove

Many of the world’s most romantic views include water. There’s just something about the play of light and water that stirs the soul. Get your Valentine’s Day off to a splendid start by heading out to Pacific Grove at dawn. This is one of the very few places in California where you can see the sun rise over the water.

4

Ushuaia, Argentina

You know the saying ‘I will go to the end of the world for you’ – well actually, you can. Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, at the foot of Argentina. From here you can reach Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, look out to sea and know you’re at the end of the world. Don’t forget to share a romantic walk and say ‘Te quiero.’

5

Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest

Budapest is absolutely glorious from any angle, and there are some great vantage points from various points around the city offering stunningly romantic views. One of the best is from the Fisherman’s Bastion. Sitting where Buda’s old fortress walls once stood, high above the city, from the monument you see a wonderful panorama that takes in the River Danube, the Chain Bridge, Margaret Island and the impressive Parliament.

Sugarloaf Mountain Cable Car, Rio De Janeiro

What could be a nicer way to spend Valentine’s Day than in one of South America’s greatest cities, enjoying the romantic views that take in mountains, the city and the ocean? The 360 degree views you can marvel at include the world famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, downtown Rio and the God’s Finger (Dedo de Deus) Mountain.

7

Taj Mahal, Agra

Not only does the Taj Mahal provide one of the most widely recognized romantic views in the world, but the story is inseparably intertwined with love. The marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife changes color throughout the day and its beautiful and serene gardens have been a place of pilgrimage for lovers for decades.

8

Tour Montparnasse, Paris

Lovers will flood into Paris for Valentine’s Day and rightly so. It is widely accepted as being the most romantic city in the world. The downside is that everyone will be jostling for the best views from the Eiffel Tower. If you want a great view but want some space, whilst the Tour Montparnasse doesn’t have the history of the Eiffel Tower, it also doesn’t have the crowds. The 360 degree views from the top floor are as spectacular as you imagine them to be.

9

Mehrangar Fort, Jaisalmer

The region of Rajasthan is one of India’s most stunning and its cities are the stuff of myths and fables (such as Jaipur, the Pink City). One of its best views and one of the most enchanting and ethereal places to spend Valentine’s Day is at the 500 hundred year old Mehrangar Fort, 400 feet up a mountain. The panoramic scene includes the Golden City of Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and the Aravalli Mountains.

10

Sognefjord, Norway

Ok, so it’s going to be very cold – Norway in February is very sun-shy – but you’ll be wrapped up warm and you’ll have your man (or lady) to envelop you in a loving hug as you take in the stunning scenery of Sognefjord. The mountains soar to above 2000 feet and the water stretches for 127 miles.

If all of the romantic views I’ve presented are beyond the budget, never fear. You can conjure up your very own one close to home. Just go to your favorite place at a special time of day and romance it up. A blanket, a picnic, a bottle of bubbly, some soft music (and some candles if you choose dusk), and it becomes irrelevant that you aren’t near one of the world’s famous romantic spots. What better way to view your hometown?

I'm a such lucky girl, I've been with my husband in at least 4 of the venues showed here. The bridge in Venice, Sugarloaf, Montparnasse and the London Eye!!!! I'd like to add the sunset at Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon here at Rio de Janeiro as the most romantic place for a Valentine's date. It's wondeful!!!
