1. Castles

With dozens scattered across the country, the beautiful castles of Slovenia are one of the top reasons to visit Slovenia. Many have been renovated into museums and some are even hotels. That is right, you can sleep in a castle. Each castle is unique in some way, with castles like Bled Castle hosting a gorgeous view of Lake Bled. Another castle, Predjama Castle, has been built into the surrounding rock and you have access to the underground caverns nearby.

2. Banovci Health Resort

Being known for its incredible health treatment, Slovenia hosts a wide variety of health centers. One of the most popular would be the Banovci Health Resort, which is located near the Austrian boarder and is home to tons of thermal pools and offers activities such as biking and hiking. The resort features around 150 camping sites and an additional 50 sites at the nudist campground, if you really want to be adventurous.

3. Maribor

If you want more cultural reasons to visit Slovenia, check out the city of Maribor. It was named as 2012 European Capital of Culture. Its main attraction is the Old Vine House, where the oldest wine is the world is still growing. The Lent International Summer Festival occurs in the summer and celebrates music, dance, and food. You can enjoy breathtaking views from the town's hills or visit some of the cathedrals and squares in the city’s center.

4. Lake Bled

Lake Bled might be one of the biggest tourist destinations in Slovenia, and for good reason. It offers a 6 kilometer track around the lake or you can enjoy some of the thermal springs in the northeast part. Many activities are offered during the day and Lake Bled is known to have an active nightlife with tons of bars and restaurants.

5. Ljubljana

The vibrant capital of Slovenia is known as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is housed on the Ljubljana River, meaning tons of bridges to enhance the already wonderful city. There are tons of bars, restaurants, and cultural events to keep you busy as you enjoy the wonderful charm of Ljubljana.

6. Julian Alps

If you want to get a taste of the landscape of Slovenia, try taking a visit to Triglav National Park and enjoy the Julian Alps. You can hike to see a 60-meter waterfall or hit the slopes and enjoy one of the many ski resorts Slovenia has to offer.

7. Piran

Piran offers something old and something new. The medieval town offers small winding streets to get lost in while you admire the Venetian inspired architecture. Stop by Tartini Square, where you can enjoy small shops and restaurants. Or for a view of the city, go to the Church of St. George to get a breathtaking view of the town.

Slovenia might not be the most traveled location in Europe for tourists, but that is a blessing in disguise.
