No city in the world compares to Paris when it comes to romance. Home to the world’s most famous painters, writers, singers, and fashion designers, it positively brims with the intoxicating airs of love. It’s no wonder it’s called the City of Love, and is on every couple’s list of places to visit for an unforgettable love fest. There are so many romantic things to do in Paris, that I don’t have space to list them all here. I’ve simply selected nine of the very best in my opinion. I hope you enjoy them to.
1 Walk Slowly along the Banks of the River Seine
Some of the most romantic things to do in Paris are simple pleasures. The French coined the term “flâner”, which means to stroll down a street slowly while observing everything around you. This is quite a different thing from walking, and the closest English word is strolling while looking around you. Be amazed by the beauty of your surroundings, while observing the little shops and locals enjoying simple picnics of bread and cheese and wine on the backs of the river.
2 Take a Boat down the River Seine
Take a ride on a bateau mouche down the River Seine to get an idea from the river that runs through the city of where everything is situated. Pass the historic museums and galleries as you head down the river, enjoying the sun and a fresh breeze. Ask someone to take a photo of you cruising down the river. The most romantic time to cruise is at sunset.
3 View Paris from the Top of the Arc De Triomphe
For a 360- degree view of the magical city of Paris, go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. This is one of the best places to see the Champs Elysée. Watch the sun set over the city before heading off for a delicious meal and evening of romance. You’ll also see why, that as well as being called the “City of Love”, it also has the nickname of the “City of Light”
4 Visit the Louvre at Night
Most people only know the Louvre in the Day, when it’s a crush to get in as it is the most visited art museum in the world. On two nights a week – Wednesdays and Fridays – it’s open till 9.45 pm, and is much quieter. Lit up, the museum looks like something out of a fairy tale. Stroll through the courtyard hand in hand with your loved one for a memorable night at the museum.
5 Explore St. Germain-des-Pres
If there’s one area that truly captures the romance of Paris, it’s St. Germain-des-Pres on the Left Bank. Take your partner’s hand and walk the cobbled streets that were traversed by the likes of Hemingway and Fitzgerald. Stop for coffee in sidewalk cafes and window shop fashionable little boutiques. And while in the area …
6 Visit Les Deux Magots Café
Food and wine are synonymous with Paris, and one café you must head to is Les Deux Magots. Home to intellectuals and literary giants since the 1920s, it is actually must older, having first opened its doors in 1885. The original décor is still in place and the waiters still dress in old-style black and white uniforms. Enjoy a café au lait or a glass of wine, while you look lovingly into each other’s eyes.
7 Visit the Jardins Du Luxembourg
Paris has some of the most beautiful parks in the world, treasured by the Parisians and visitors alike. The Jardins du Luxembourg is the perfect place to enjoy the fragrant aromas of the extensive flowers and bushes before finding the perfect spot for a picnic. Grab some freshly baked bread and aromatic cheese and a bottle of wine and you’re all set.
8 Take an Evening Tour of Paris in a Vintage Car
A great way to see Paris by night is in a tour in a hired 2CV. These iconic cars are inherently cozy, so you’ll naturally snuggled in together. Champagne is called for of course, as you enjoy the sights of Paris by night- as long as you aren’t the driver! Of course, you could always book a private tour so you can both enjoy the bubbly.
9 Love at Pont Du Neuf
A special treat for all romantic lovers is to “lock” your love on the railings of the “Lock Bridge”, now located on the Pont du Neuf, the bridge that spans the Île de la Cité (after the original love lock bridge was cleared). Having locked your love in, you then toss your keys into the river Seine below.
10 Go to the Top of the Eiffel Tower
Whether you choose to climb to the top of the tower or take a lift, the Eiffel tower is one of the iconic spots for all lovers. Many people have chosen to propose on top of the tower. Enjoy a romantic dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant after taking in the magnificent views around you.
