Looking for a few great reasons to tour Europe while in college? Even though it’s now been (yikes!) 10 years since my own month-long European college tour, I still look back on it as one of the best experiences of my life. Ready to set out on an exciting European adventure of your own? Here are seven smart reasons to tour Europe while in college.
1. You’ll Pay Less
By far one of the best reasons to tour Europe while in college is that you’ll get to see more while paying less. Although traveling to and around Europe can of course be expensive, travelers 25 and younger can typically get great deals on train passes, helping reduce costs. A knowledgeable tour guide can also help find youth-oriented hostels and hotels that offer good bargains and are also safe and clean, so be sure to do plenty of research and travel with a guide you trust.
2. You’ll Make Amazing Memories
From paragliding in the Alps of Switzerland to scaling the Eiffel Tower in Paris and visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the adventures my best friend and I had during our trip have now become memories to last a lifetime. In addition to scheduling group activities, our tour guide also allowed us plenty of freedom to explore on our own, making it even easier to customize our experience. Grab your own best pal, or even an entire group of friends, and start planning the trip of your dreams.
3. You’ll Meet New People
Even if you’re traveling with a group of your own friends from school, touring Europe is a great way to meet new people, as well. Since I traveled with a local tour group, I met a lot of other students from my hometown and region, including a few I kept in touch with even after our adventures ended. It was also fun meeting students from all around the world while visiting clubs and restaurants across Europe.
4. You’ll Learn about Other Cultures
From trying new foods to getting a firsthand look at local customs, touring Europe is an incredible way to experience other cultures and bring history to life. Take the time to thoroughly research the cities and countries you’ll be visiting in order to get a sense of what you’d most like to do while you’re there. Keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to try a new cuisine or speak a few words in another language!
5. You’ll Have More Time to Travel
Depending what type of career path the future holds for you, your college years may be the best time to take an extended vacation. Never in a million years would I have been able to take an entire month off work to tour Europe after graduating, so I’m incredibly glad I took advantage of the opportunity when I did. Have a summer break coming up? Make the most of it by planning a trip!
6. You’ll Have More Energy
Even though I’m still shy of 30, I’m already envious of the amazing amounts of energy I had back in my late teens and early 20s. From country-hopping every couple days to staying out all night dancing with friends, my European adventures definitely pushed my energy levels to the max. This is yet another reason I’m glad to have done it while I was in college, back when being constantly on the move was exciting, not exhausting!
7. You’ll Gather Fun Ideas for Future Trips
Whether your European tour lasts two weeks, an entire month and any other amount of time, it will definitely introduce you to cities and sites you want to come back and see more of in the future. For example, I loved the two days I spent in London during my tour, and now that I’m married, I can’t wait to someday spend an entire week there with my husband. Have fun exploring, and remember that while you won’t be able to see everything this time around, you have the rest of your life to come back!
As you can see, my travels in Europe during college changed my life and helped inspire a lifelong love for travel. Do you agree with these seven reasons to tour Europe while in college, and do you have any other ideas you’d like to share?
