2. Assateague Island, Virginia

If you like your beaches untouched, undeveloped and pristinely clean, Assateague Beach is for you. Assateague is a barrier island, shared between Maryland and Virginia with the area designated national seashore and parkland. You might have to share the sand, clear waters and beautiful views with wild ponies that call the island home, and a seal or two, but the beach is peaceful and perfect.
