Keep Your Id on You

If you’re travelling alone, ladies, you need to remember to keep a copy of your ID on you at all times. To be on the safe side, you might like to carry more than one version with you, and make sure at least one of these is stored in a safe, mugger-proof place.

2

Be Smart

We all know when a situation doesn’t feel right and when you’re travelling alone this survival instinct is oh-so important. Never force yourself to stay in a dodgy cab, or go with new ‘friends’ if there’s something off about them. The solo traveler needs to be sensitive to potentially dangerous scenarios, so be sure not to ignore your gut feelings – they may well be right.

3

Keep to Public Places

Especially at night, girls, you don’t want to be talking short cuts in a strange city if doing this means wandering the backstreets. Stick to well-lit, busy places, and never wander alone in the streets after dark.

4

Work Your Attitude

When you’re strolling about the city on your own, remember to walk with confidence and purpose. Don’t dawdle apprehensively and look indecisive; always act as if you know exactly where you’re going and you’ll kick the ass of anyone who tries to stop you from getting there! Experts suggest this kind of strategy can really help to reduce your chances of being attacked. So let that sassy inner diva free, girls; it could just save you from a mugging.

5

Be Prepared

Always make sure you know when and where you’re going before you leave the hotel. Organize your maps, train timetables and bus passes well ahead of time so you won’t find yourself frantically paging through a foreign language transport schedule looking for a ride to the nearest attraction.

Famous Quotes

One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles possesses the only strength which can overcome adversity.

6

Dress for the Occasion

Girls, if you’re exploring the arid African landscape or wandering through the Madagascan jungles, don’t wear heels and skimpy sundress. More to the point, don’t cover yourself in half the stock of Tiffany’s either, ladies. That’s what we call asking for trouble!

7

Have Fun

While it is very important to be safe when you’re travelling alone, girls, don’t get so caught up in safety issue that you forget to enjoy your holiday. You must relax and have fun, and you absolutely can. Keep potential risks in mind but don’t let them overwhelm you; safety is vital but it shouldn’t encroach on your vacation.
