7 Facts on Florida ...

Since I live in Florida, I enjoy writing facts on it. Florida is a beautiful sunshine state. The thing is, when people picture Florida, they tend to picture a hot beach full of sun. Well, that is not always so. While it does not snow here (it did snow once, when I was little and it actually stuck on the ground), it still freezes. This past winter, I have woken up to freezing morning so many times – I believe it's a record. Right now, I am going to give you 7 facts on Florida …

7. Saint Augustine

Yes, yes, Saint Augustine is a beautiful place and I enjoy visiting it often, since it is not very far away from me. This is known for being the oldest European settlement to be found in North America. You should go there, at least once – I guarantee you will want to go back. It's historical, yet beautiful.

6. Saint John's River

I went shrimping in this river about 4 months ago – again, it's not far from me. The amazing thing about this river is that it is one of the few rivers that flows north and not south. I find that to be a pretty cool fact.

Frequently asked questions

5. American Alligator

Oh yes, you have got to love the American Alligator. I mean, there are plenty of lovely creeks, ponds, springs and lakes that look so inviting to swim in, but it's hard to, because of the fear of swimming with alligators. The alligator is the official state reptile.

4. Miami

Miami is a beautiful place, don't you think? They installed the first bank automated teller machine that is made just for rollerbladers – that's really neat. Now, Miami is not close to me, it's all the way at the tip of Florida, so I do not get to go there as often.

3. Same Name Rivers

Florida is the only state in the USA that has 2 rivers that have the same name. There is a Withlacoochee in North Cental Florida (Madison County) and then you have a Withlacoochee in central Florida. These two rivers do not have anything in common, other than the fact that they share the same name. So, when you tell someone to meet you at Withlacoochee river, make sure you specify which river.

2. Fort Lauderdale

In Florida, Fort Lauderdale is known for being the Venice of America. Fort Lauderdale has one hundred and eight five miles of local waterways. You should definitely visit Fort Lauderdale to see what I am talking about.

1. Florida Panther

The Florida panther is the official state animal. The Florida panther is an endangered species and there are only fifty to eighty of them left in the wild. This is a sad fact, because they are such great animals.

There you have 7 facts on Florida. I live around Jacksonville, Florida in a small town. Yet, enjoy traveling to Jacksonville – surely some of you have heard of this big city in Florida. So, where have you visited in Florida?
