I have been an avid follower of a number of travel boards on Pinterest pretty much since they introduced Place Pins two years ago.

The boards are an inspiration for destinations and just looking at fabulous travel photos.

Accordingly, I was extremely interested when the list of the most pinned places on Pinterest was published.

Let’s go on a whistle-stop tour of the destinations:

1. POSITANO, CAMPANIA, ITALY

POSITANO, CAMPANIA, ITALY

A favorite among the A-list and jetsetters, this charming little town on the Amalfi coast is as much a destination for foodies as well as beach lovers.

2. MUSHA CAY ISLAND, BAHAMAS

MUSHA CAY ISLAND, BAHAMAS

So many lagoons and cays and atolls and tiny islands around the world but among them all, the one that features in the most pinned places on Pinterest is Musha Cay with its exquisite sand and pristine water.

3. HANOI, VIETNAM

HANOI, VIETNAM

Running on an energy as frenetic as the thousands of motorbikes that whizz around the city streets, Hanoi has ancient colonial hotels, traditional sites and a brilliant if somewhat typical South Asian culture.

4. HAVASU FALLS, GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA

There are just so, so many parts of the Grand Canyon to visit and photograph, but Pinterest users have put Havasu Falls in pole position.

5. PETROHUE FALLS, CHILE

6. JARLSHOF, SHETLAND, SCOTLAND

JARLSHOF, SHETLAND, SCOTLAND

It seems pinners love ancient ruins and remote places.2

Shetland, along Scotland's rocky coast, is sometimes called the end of the world.

The rewards are great for those who make it there.

7. KYOTO, JAPAN

KYOTO, JAPAN

Once the Japanese capital, Kyoto can boast 1200 years of history.

More spiritual, sedate and serene than Tokyo, photographers can lose themselves among beautiful shrines and stunning gardens.

8. PORT FAIRY, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

PORT FAIRY, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

This fishing village, less than 200 miles west of state capital Melbourne, packs on the charm with its 19th-century cottages, stone churches and delightful inns.

It seems few can resist the photogenic lighthouse.
