Duomo

Duomo The Duomo is hard to miss in the Florence skyline and is one of the top must see sights in Florence. You can climb the Duomo and get a view of the entire city, or attend mass on Sundays. You can also visit the Baptistery right across from the Duomo and climb the Bell Tower. You almost can’t go anywhere in the city without walking past the Duomo, so you might as well make the most of your trip and get the full experience of being inside the iconic church.

2

Piazzale Michelangelo

Piazzale Michelangelo If you are up for a hike, make your way across the river and up to Piazzale Michelangelo. You get the most incredible view of Florence and the surrounding hillside. My friends and I would grab a bottle of wine, hike up the mountain, and watch the sunset over the city. I can easily tell you those nights were some of my most memorable times in Florence and I would highly recommend it.

3

Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio Not only is it one of the most iconic bridges in Florence, it also has some of the best shopping. You won’t be able to resist snapping a pic of you standing on the bridge with all of Florence in the background. And there are tons of fantastic jewelry stores all around the bridge. Shopping and a perfect view of Florence, what else could you ask for?

4

Michelangelo’s “David”

Michelangelo’s “David” While there are some fake “David” statues all around Florence, the original, and most spectacular, David is at the Accademia Gallery. There are tons of beautiful paintings and sculptures in the Accademia but the main attraction is the David. You truly cannot understand how huge the Accademia is until you see it in person. But just be careful, you might get in trouble if you try to take pictures.

5

Palazzo Vecchio

Palazzo Vecchio If you are going anywhere in Florence, it is hard to miss walking through Palazzo Vecchio. It is one of the largest squares in Florence and is home to the old city hall. Not to mention it features some of the most beautiful sculptures and fountains in the city. But be warned, it is usually filled with tons and tons of tour groups that make it hard to navigate through during the day.

Uffizi

Uffizi If you are a fan of art, you 100% need to visit the Uffizi Gallery. It includes some of the most incredible and breathtaking art from the Renaissance. There are floors upon floors of amazing art that you just cannot miss if you visit Florence. The city is known for its Renaissance influence and you need to enjoy all of that at the Uffizi Gallery.

7

Fiesole

Fiesole I would recommend doing this on one of the last stops on your trip. Take a day trip to Fiesole and walk around for a little bit. It has adorable restaurants, some old school ruins, an old monastery, and possibly my favorite view of Florence. The best way to enjoy Fiesole is to just wander. You can find some of the best views from the mountaintop by accident.

8

Boboli Gardens

Boboli Gardens Take some time in the Boboli Gardens and you will forget that you are in a city. The incredible, expansive gardens are on the other side of the river and are the perfect spot to run around and get some fresh air. It is the perfect spot for a midday picnic or to read a book in one of the many open fields.

9

San Lorenzo Market

San Lorenzo Market So it might not necessarily be a sight, but it is still a must-do while in Florence. You can find anything in this market, from belts to purses to watches. Florence is known for leather goods, so test your bartering skills and try to purchase an authentic leather jacket or a great wallet. While you are there, take a stop into Mercato Centrale and try some delicious authentic Italian food.

My favorite thing about Florence is that you can do most of these sights within a few days. You don’t need to spend weeks in the city to capture its beauty. Just by walking around you can find the most beautiful churches, incredible artwork, and friendly people. Florence is one of my favorite cities not only for its sights but for its all around beauty. What did you think of these must see sights in Florence? What are some other places you would recommend in Florence? Why do you love Florence as a tourist destination?
